Day 18: Greenstone Hut to Greenstone Carpark

After a lazy day eating and doing laundry at the luxurious Greenstone Hut, I decided to push on to the road end and camp at the carpark, which I had heard you could do, talking to some southbounders. It was a better option than the alternative – leaving the hut at 6am to walk the three hours to the carpark in time to meet the shuttle – since I would not have to walk in the dark.

The track followed the river out through the valley to Lake Wakatipu.

The track was beautiful and clearly popular, with a wide path and many informative signs! I was happy to reach the carpark and find a secluded camp spot hidden from the cars, just before dinnertime.

The view from my sneaky campsite.
